Long Term Care Costs

Long-term care is virtually inevitable. As you age, you are more prone to health-related conditions that will require healthcare. Although many individuals neglect to prepare for this fact of life, there are ways that you can ensure that you are ready for all of life's surprises in the future.

Self-Insurance
Self-insurance assumes that you are financially able and willing to pay for costs to cover nursing home expenses, doctor bills, and other healthcare-related issues. Keep in mind that inflation will continue to increase these expenses, and what may seem like a sufficient savings plan now will not help nearly as much in the years to come.

Medicaid
Medicaid is not a privilege offered to all individuals. This federal and state program provides need-based assistance, so you must meet a certain financial threshold in order to take advantage of the welfare benefits. If you exceed the threshold, you will not qualify.

You can always transfer your assets to appear eligible to receive Medicaid; however, laws attempt to prohibit this strategy. If you are interested in taking advantage of Medicaid, you should consult a financial professional to learn about the qualifications and limitations associated with this program.

What about Long-Term-Care Insurance?
With long-term-care insurance, you are able to allocate a percentage of economic liability to the insurer. As a result of this move, you will receive regular premiums. Covering the costs of skilled, intermediate, and custodial nursing care, long-term-care is helpful in times where you experience extended medical conditions that require supervised attention.

Long-Term-Care Riders
These insurance instruments are in addition to your life insurance contracts and serve to assist with long-term healthcare obligations. In order to add this to your existing policy, you will be required to pay a separate fee.
